On finding a Anodised Aqua Zaskar frame in 16 inch. It’s been 10 years now and I stupidly passed on one whilst on furlough and regret it massively.

So my plan now is to have find a good condition 93/94 BB frame and have it anodised. Needs to be the correct year so when it’s done it’s no different to a OE one.

So what do I need to consider?

I assume any steel needs removing such as bottle mounts. I’m guessing it needs to be highly polished and consistent in finish.Anything else?

In the meantime I have a 98 painted Zaskar frame. Has anyone has paint removed , polished and anodised on one of these. Was thinking of a trial run and having it done green like the 98 ones came.

@danson67 any pointers as I’m sure your the expert and likely the person I’d visit to have the frame prepped as I’m not drilling bits out.

I was thinking Acorn plating for the job itself.

yeah my Aluminium O is being stripped of paint as we speak, will see what condition it is in when it comes back, the anodiser said the frame needs all steel inserts removed, bottle cage bosses etc, yes the frame may need polishing before anodising. i'll post on my thread when it;s further along, worst case i repaint it.

Ok so I’ve now bought a bike which I’ll keep the frame to experiment on. It’s a 97/98 LE so I will attempt anodised green firstly.

Is the only steel on these the bottle cage mounts?

Bumping this back up as I ended up keeping the 97 LE as Ball burnished but I’ve just got another 97 which seems to be crack/dent/deep scratch free.

Plan is to clean it up and decide if it’s good enough to anodise green.

Has anyone removed bottle bosses before ? And put some back in?

Any other steel on a Zaskar?

Do you mean the rivet nuts? I've used a hacksaw to remove ones that are already loose- don't know if you can drill them out otherwise?
LBS to put new ones in- unless you want to buy the (very specialized) tool!?
