Mid 90’s Manitou Comp’s and V Brakes..

Good morning all,

I’m currently piecing together a ‘96 Zaskar LE, and have run into a small issue.

I have some Manitou Comp forks I was intending on using, however the V brakes hit the old Canti brace.

Is the solution to get longer V brake bosses, if so, any suggestions where to source them?

The other option is to remove the brace, if I can get the bloody Allen bolts undone!

as always, any advice appreciated!

Square peg + round hole.

I suppose it's possible to faff around and get it all to work but I'm lazy these days and would look for some diacomp or swap the forks out for something more mid nineties. Say rockshox jett....and...and..

That was going to be my next question. The bike is pretty light with some nice bits going onto it. What what be a suitable mid nineties lightweight fork, Rockshox Judy SL etc? The Manitou’s don’t feel the lightest!

I reckon you are bang on there. I've never owned Judy's, sids, or magura forks but they seem to be the go-to forks for that upper end build. I'm sure d8mok on here has some Judy's on ebay for not silly money.
Oooh, the options, gets me all giddy.
All the best for your build mate.

You can get alternate brace for the fork, can't say if they will solve the problem, plus quite spendy.

How much clearance do you need? You could fit a washer to buy you the clearance as long as there is enough brake on the boss.

Fork options, if you want light but good are pretty wide, as long as you find a good set, Judy (sl, fsx) sid (28 or 32mm) pace, fox, marzocchi etc all have v mounts well into the naughties.

Thanks a lot Marc, so much for a ‘cheapish’ build 😀

I have a Manitou brace you can have for free if it helps. Later vbrake version. So you won't have this problem. If you decide to keep the fork let me know.
Just pay the postage

That would be brilliant, and a very kind offer. I will send you a PM. Many thanks
