A ride moved because of ice conditions. The new route guide came up with a 13 mile loop but then was injured in the line of brake maintenance and couldn't attend. Monumental journeys for some of the participants from Northumberland and Wick. Would we all get there on time. Would we find our way without a guide. Would we manage the 1000ft accent from the Soldiers Leap. Would our bawbags be baltic, find out here....
Sunday saw forty fluro and checked shirt clad men arrive in a car park, in a wood, in Norfolk, UK. Not for anything untoward you understand but for the Second Round of the Retrobike National Events Series with support from Bikefood - The Thetford Classic. A wide range of bikes were in attendance, everything from a Ti Mega to a replica Clunker to a Saracen Sahara. An enjoyable day's riding was had by all, click here for full aftermath report. The next round will be taking place at Cannock on Feb 12th, click here for details.

Happy New Year and welcome to the second Retrobike Rides Newsletter. Each month we aim to enlighten you of all the goings on around the country that have occurred in the previous month and let you know what’s going on in the coming month. Ridebike Rides have now been going strong for many years. At first these involved a couple of dodgy looking characters in lurid lycra meeting up in the woods to ride their retro pride and joys. But now meetings have evolved to groups of up to 40 enthusiasts meeting up to enjoy their bikes, company and trails. In doing so a friendly atmosphere has been created and good riding manners developed, giving Retrobike Rides their unique qualities and infectious banter. Everyone is welcome to join...

Following discussion, we've very reluctantly taken the decision to POSTPONE the ride next Monday and give as much notice as possible so that people could alter their plans. This was not an easy decision to arrive at as the Turkey Twizzler is a very well established and attended event. Although we recognise that weather forecasts are often unreliable, Cannock is supposed to have 4 inches of snow on Monday and never be above freezing between now and then so the riding could be a challenge but it was the getting there and back, with some people travelling vast distances, that was the key concern. We're hoping to arrange a slightly surreal festive Turkey Twizzler in February, date to be confirmed. Ok, off to cancel the caterers...
Everyone likes Old School and none more so than Retrobike and Morvélo Bicycle Apparel. Fat Tire Flyer was the original mountainbike magazine co-founded in 1980 by one of the pioneers of Mountain Biking Charlie Kelly. It's pages contain classic imagery of early off-road action and this cover from May/June 1984, a bike pile after one of the customary early April "Derby's" in Marin County, sums up the care free and fun loving attitude of the time. Retrobike and Morvélo liked it some much they got in contact with Charlie Kelly to see if they could run a limited edition t-shirt of it. Not only did he say yes, but he also re-scanned in the cover of the original for them to use. His fee? "Just make sure you send me one of the t-shirts!" he...
