Looking for a top spec Xizang for photo/film shoot

Hi all,

I'm new to RetroBike and figured it the best place to try and locate the above.

I work for a media company and we are looking for a Xizang bike for a film and photo shoot.

Being in the fortunate position of awaiting the delivery of one of the few 26" Xizang frames we want to do a comparison to the classic Ti bike from GT as a feature for the web.

We would need the bike and preferably it's owner for a day at a location to be confirmed/discussed.

So if you are the owner of a Xizang built with parts from it's era then it would be great to hear from you, really looking for a high spec build too.

Thanks in advance

David

Build is slightly different now - but still fairly period correct, it's now wearing Judy SL LTs, a Syncros Cattlehead, Azonic risers and Mavic D521s. Drivetrain is mainly M952 XTR, with Race Face Turbines and SRAM X-rays. Decals are custom. Not to everyone's taste, but very late 1990s I think.

I'm a ways from Hertfordshire though.

I'm nominating TheKen - owned from new, still ridden hard, and including the finest period Hope disc brakes!

Happy to put mine above forward, I'll need to get the original colour decals reprinted which is easy. I can set it up in a variety of ways with the original stem and and XT u-brake rear wheel. Can switch it to the original rigid 2x4 forks or use the iconic Mag21's.

Bike has bullseye cranks, 1992 hope disc wheels - cable calipers are a little newer (94) but I have the old ones too. xtr rear mech xt front, choice of bars. Also can fit my original Turbo lite seat.

This is it's current rigid guise but I'll be putting on the suspension next week for a mtb tour of Arran.

Of course I'll need a wee shot of the new one to see how they compare :)

Hi guys,

What a great response! Thanks for getting in touch about this, at the moment I am in the process of sourcing parts for this build.

I'm definitely aiming for a build that references the brands and parts of the original Xizang era, so if there are any suggestions on what modern parts may fit the bill then feel free to let me know.

Currently I just have the frame (well I will when I get back in the office on Wednesday) so could start a quick build blog as parts turn up and the bike comes together.

I am working with a colleague on this so we will have a chat about which bike or bikes fit what we are looking for and organise a meet once we have this modern classic together.

Thanks again for your input and interest.

David

Gotta go for an xtr build, rockshox fork, crossmax wheels and some syncros/raceface finishing kit.

Would be as nice a bike now as it was back then

Love to see a build thread on the new GTX.

I would suggest:

SID World Cup
Full 2012 XTR
King/Mavic wheelset
Thomson stem/post
Monkey Lite bar
Flite Classic.

Old parts on a new bike doesn't work for me, but that build would still have a retro feel.
