Purple Orange prestige.. listed as a p7 ..Bradford

I've been watching this one, it was up for £185 bin last week.

I don't think it's a p7, it looks like a late 80's or very early 90's Prestige or Clockwork (short head tube etc). I asked for the serial number but the seller says there isn't one.

Yes, it very clearly says Prestige on the top tube.

Yes, hmmm. Well I think you're right to be cautious. It wouldn't do to jump to the conclusion that it's a Prestige, just because it has the word Prestige on the top tube, would it?

The decals, and I believe the paintwork, are in a style they started using in 1993, and I think the down tube decal may be even later. The frame however is no later than 1991, so it definitely pre-dates the Prestige decal. You could only tell for sure by weighing it, but I would guess that it is probably a Prestige. It looks like a pukka repaint, quite possibly by Orange themselves as the colour is right and it has spent its life in Yorkshire, and they wouldn't put Prestige decals on a Clockwork.

19", really? It's a bit of an odd shape that one.
Unless my eyes deceive me, the top-tube is sloping down from the seat-tube to the head-tube, which I've only ever seen on really big frames...

if you look at the seat cluster detail, the renforcement bit has that fluted shape, wheres the oranges i've got or seen have a straight edge.

whereas the muddy foxes in that thread have fluted bits......

hmmmmmmmm.

my 91 clockwork & prestige are both fluted, where as my 92 prestige is straight.

Very similar to the Orange frame I've got in the shed, size wise and geometry. Mine is an '89.

If you ignore the colour (and decals), and the random finishing kit in places, then parts like the brakes date it at no later than '91/92.

Could be worth it for not much more than the current price, in terms of parts.

You haven't given any proper pictures of your bike in that thread, so I couldn't tell you whether it's an Orange or something else. If it is an Orange of some kind, it is from 1992. However the serial number doesn't look like any Orange number that I have seen.

The eBay bike is similar to the example below, which may be a 90 or 91. The flatter top tube and seatstay joining seat tube well below the level of the top tube is the older style. The decals on this one are correct for the period.
