My new purchase arrived today :D but when stripping found the drive side crank threads partially stripped :x . I now realise that this is because the cranks are stuck on the square taper. No biggie as even though I wouldn't have minded keeping them I think they were just generic badged up bontragers. So my question is whats your methods for siezed cranks.

So far I've bolted a strongback(thats bending though  ) to an arm and trying to jack of off a crank bolt with a g clamp. Gave the taper a scoosh of releasant(ok, nada chance of any help). Should be able to fashion something a bit more robust at work tomorrow, but was wondering what do you use?

I found either cutting through the crank to the bb to realise sum pressure and also hitting it with a hammer

yes for lack of anything else I use a hacksaw through to the taper which releases the pressure.

Heating with heat gun/hot air blower help sometimes.

My favourite would be big combustion engine operated grinder (same than fire brigade uses). Newer had a change to use it, so for things that have not been opened with heat I have used small grinder.

If you take off one side of the chainset and remove the BB cup from one side, you can release the BB by getting a suitable size punch and giving it an almighty whack with a lump hammer (you will need to tap at first so the seized crank sits fluch against the BB cup).
It's something of a last resort if you want to save the seized crank. I wouldn't recommend it on alu frames either! :?
And don't have the BB aiming at anyone/anything breakable - when it goes, it's gonna fly!!!

Sucess :D :D managed to get it off using a big shifter, the g clamp and the strong back and jacking of the small chainring bolt bosses onto the crank bolt screwed back slightly, fortunately it was a 4 arm. Even better was I feared the worst for the bb but it had been coated with anti sieze and fell out.

Lots of good tips but it was an alu frame and was nowhere near rideable, could have got some bearing pullers from work but that would have been tomorrow , my grinders just a bit too big and the wife would have killed me if I start grinding in the hall  Used my heat gun too and this may have helped a bit.

Roll on the rebuild.
