After working 12 years in a bike store and working on bikes most of my life I have never found anything better than a MIDWEST P6300

http://www.midwestsnips.com/news_10.php

I have used all Shimano, Suntour, Park, Pedro's, HTK and others over the year and have found nothing that holds up as long or cuts innerwires and casing as well as this one. You won't find it in a bike shop or at any bicycle e-tailers. You could go to your local hardware store, Sears or a number of places that sell tools and pick one up for a whole $13.00.

I've even tortured this one by clipping spokes and it still cuts cables like it was new.

the park ones are shit btw

shimano ones at 60 quid are the ones to go for
or a good set of sparky's pliers (gedore)

Yeah and what does it say....cut's 3mm solid stock?...that's why they work well on spokes too. They are very nice. A good friend of mine owns a shop in town and this is the cutter he's switched to on my recommendation because he's sick of going through so many Shimano cable cutters each year and he can buy three to four of these for the cost of one Shimano cutter.

as are most of the park non-specialty tools.

good call on the midwest cutters, kevin. I find Home Depot is useful for many of my mtb fixing needs.

I too have spent many years working with bikes, and I can vouch for Knippex, who I believe are also responsible for teh very good Pedros models.

I have used a pair of Knipex for around 10 years, and the last five years used the Pedros ones. As long as used properly they should last for years and are very good value.

I also agree, the park ones are utter crap. I myself am sick of giving mechanics these as they inevitably fail in one manner or just don't cut clean.

right ,so far i know i need to avoid the park ones, they are for personal use and will not be used that much, but would prefer a good degree of longevity,

are the icetools ones ok for this?
the ones that everyone seems to recommend can only be got in the US.

like the look well sound of the knipex ones, and seems knipex can be got in the uk,

what is the name of them knipex cutters?

seems there is a 125, 160 and 180 mm diagonal side cutter?, is this what im after, i and why cant they call it a cable cutter, oh and what size

thanks

whats wrong with the park tools cutter? i've had mine for over 7 years, still cuts like new, never missed a beat. And i used it to do some wire fencing a little while back.
