I’ve given a home to a knackered old Dog on its last legs-

Okay my winter project is more than a bit rough round the edges - but it’s all there and harks from the “pre-Klien” Trek era the era when Trek pioneered innovation with the best of them and spec’ed their bikes with Grafton brakes, CQP cranks, Bullseye hubs, American stems, Tange big one forks or RS1s at a time when components like these were the stuff of bedroom posters

Over the years this ones lost not only its youthful looks but also all of the above jewellery and came care of Longun for almost zip and desperately looking for a final resting place - I’ve always liked the look of early Trek’s especially 8700/8900 and the 90’s fusion of Aluminium/Carbon fibre.

As many of you know I’ve never hidden the fact that I just can’t live with Patina - to me it’s about as appealing as living with a dog full of VERY hungry ferule flea’s, so this old dog is going to get a major make over in order to turn back the years and rediscover those long lost looks.

Anyway heres what it would have looked like, when the epitome of many a 1990's school boys dreams

and heres my Dog .... not the best picture but the best the Longun dogs trust could muster I'm afraid

1991 8900 8700 trek carbon composite

Here it is in all its flaky glory - before the work commenced

If this was a dog I think its fair to say it's seen more than a few winters come and go and also chased its fair share of postmen

I can't wait to see what you make of this. How far along are you with the project?

Seeing as I'm still working on the b****y house and have restrictions on bike builds enforced by the management  , I’m going to have to rely on getting my build fix vicariously from you old chap… carry on… :D

Looking at the spec sheet. This must have been quite an expensive bike BITD?

Not many frames got dressed with Bullseye hubs / Grafton and RS1’s :D

The use of upmarket boutique components wouldn’t happen today - BITD the RS1’s would have been a source of wonderment as well
