I have had a trawl around looking at prices etc. It looks like the Tange Levin headset I removed from the Gazelle had a stack height of around 33mm. The cheaper Tange Passage has a stack height of 30.1mm. What are my options?

I would like to check the stack height on the headset i removed - what exactly should i be measuring?

Thanking you,

Richard

Re: Headset Stack Height

That could be the plan but i need to know how to measure the one i have. Any ideas?

Re: Headset Stack Height

Pile it all up and measure the height and then subtract the length of the cups that are in the frame.

Or sheldon bown will cover it :)

Re: Headset Stack Height

Shaun,

I did check Sheldon but am none the wiser - perhaps i am more stupid today than normal.

The headset is not in the frame - this is it at the moment -

Do i measure all the bits and subtract the sections that sit in the stem?

Re: Headset Stack Height

It's all about subtraction = Maths after simple measurements or did you not pass your GCSE's :)

Re: Headset Stack Height

Hmmm I may not be so good at maths but my spelling is good, as is my grammar!!! LOL

O-Levels were a long time ago.

Re: Headset Stack Height

Just as midlife says , simples . Then just use a spacer anyway as Matthew 71 says . Buy it , fit it , and see how many spacers you need , as it's easier than cutting the steerer down

Re: Headset Stack Height

Put the whole headset together, correctly. As it would be in the bike.

Measure the total height.

Subtract the length of the two stubs that are inserted into the headtube (the bit on the frame) then subtract the thickness of the lip on the lock nut.
