Why, how did each version come about? Who designed them?
What roll did Spinner play?
Why did the Track 2s die?
What are the riding differences?
Who prefers which and why?
What other bikes (than Kona) did they come on as OEM - list:
I am aware that the track two fork was subject to a warranty recall in the end, due to the fork leg slipping through the aluminium crown. I went through three sets in total bitd, ( i have pics somewhere of the loan set the secondlevel lent me, to enable me to continue racing whilst the problems were resolved) the set that resides in the frame now, have never moved an inch and have remained perfect.
I have always preferred the look of the track two fork over the project two, and performance wise i really dont think there is much in it, they both do what they say on the tin, although i still maintain the tracktwo has slightly better mud clearance. The track two, is a composite fork t6 6061 aluminium crown, with Ishiwata tapered cromoly blades, and investment cast dropouts.
Both sets i have are stamped "spinner", and i have always presumed that this was the far east company responsible for there manufacture, (how ever i could be wrong, its only a presumption.) I have tried several times (simply out of curiosity) to find out what company was responsible for the manufacture of these tbg kona frames, And forks..., but i have still drawn a blank.
I have seen several smaller English frame builders ( overburys, dave yates) using the project two, as a fork option with there frames, and i suspect this is because it is a well regarded fork, and far less expensive to buy, then to replicate the design, and make a similar fork themselves.
it was always written they were both a joe murray design, i would also love to know how much imput paul brodie had in the design, and others in the tbg at this time. I suspect brodie had a decent amount of imput, given his own design of the stunning gatorblade fork....?????? does anyone know anymore...????
