Hi can anyone give any suggestions for getting the fixed cup of a bottom bracket without the special tool.

The one which has 2 flat sides for a spanner :?

Re:

I managed to get a spanner on the nut and get it off

Never seen one of these before :?

Am I right in assuming I just need to stick in some new bearing and grease it up ?

How easy is it to remove rest of the bottom bracket ?

Is it pressed in ?

Re:

Get a big washer on the outside large enough to cover the whole cup, then a large shortish bolt that fits in the washer making sure the nut can fit inside the bb with a socket on it, then place the washer and the bolt on the outside of the cup and wind the nut on inside the bb with a socket and extension, holding the outer nut with a spanner, when the nut is tight enough to stop spinning carry on tightening with the socket and the cup should just wind out...................... I think I have that the right way round

Re:

I have managed to get the outer part off, it looks like a pressed fit inner section :?

So I am going to slap in some new bearings, grease her up and wait until I can get a bike shop to remove it, I get impatient and wreck things

Am I right in assuming that they used press fit bottom brackets to save money ?

I'm trying to remember if that side's a right or left hand thread.

If it's the left hand thread and the BB is destined for the bin, put a big bolt through it from the inside and hold with a socket, then wind a nut onto the bolt as it tightens it'll grip the BB and then unscrew it for you.

That's a plan 8)
