Another sale I'll probably regret but to be honest this was always a little small for me (I'm 6'3") so I'm moving it on to let someone else have a go! :D Would make a great proper early UK ATB or a stylish all-terrain tourer. Either way, a Suntour groupset would be most 'correct', with Dia-Compe brakes - I have several photos of the pre-restoration bike. Some of you may remember reading about my efforts, I eventually got round to building up a vintage custom cruiser... if Pashley made mountain bikes I think this is what they'd build! It's done literally 50 dry road miles since complete nut & bolt restoration with loads of new parts fitted (any used parts being thoroughly refurbished) and the parts I'm selling are detailed below.

PRICE FOR FRAME & FORKS:
110 collected from leafy South Manchester to recoup some of my restoration costs (paintwork, repairs, transport + decals, seatpost, stem etc.) as while Mr K gave me the frame, I karma'd the original parts :roll: and spent much more than this restoring it! This includes new Tange cartridge headset (cost 21 pounds), alloy 27.2 post (10), retro Kalloy-esque QR clamp (5), custom heli tape chainstay protector (it's invisible!), Sakae stem (10), BB cable guide (3), new stainless frame bolts and custom shoulder strap as shown below (3)

I'm happy to include the all-alloy Tange 1" threaded headset for the buyer, it's less than 50 miles old and has cartridge bearings :cool: I tried a Stronglight A9 (iirc) first but it was too tall... the Tange is ok without the washer so perhaps new owner could have 1mm faced off the headtube or less drastically find a lower stack headset - Mr K used a Ritchey Logic... or just ride it as is, that top nut ain't coming loose with the stem on lowest position (it still has enough thread engagement to raise the stem safely though). This is quite a bargain as you're getting it for a fair bit less than I spent on it, and frames like this don't come up very often! As you can see the Sakae stem suits the frame really well and is almost identical to ones I've seen on some mid-late '80s Kilis and Conquests. The Dead Rats sticker on the chainstay is removable ;) and Gil M is able to make a custom headtube decal if required. Photos also show tres cool twin downtube cable guides in detail, seat tube and chainstay/BB shell lugs and various braze-ons. Remember, this frameset has done c.50 miles since complete resto... it's 99% perfect IMO aside from little scratch on the fork crown and slight peeling at bottom left corner of 501 frame decal - frame is not laquered. I've never attempted to lift complete bike using the shoulder strap I made for it (from a belt... that's what the bosses are for!) so remove/replace that if you wish!

First I had the fork threads re-cut by GBH in Manchester, who also removed a stuck brake boss bolt (cost 16 pounds):

Then the frame was professionally blasted and beautifully powdercoated in gloss black at Greenspeed in Macclesfield (with the help of Drystonepaul ta!) which cost just over 60 pounds inc. blasting and transport:

I had custom downtube decals made by Gil M in the period Saracen font which cost 16 pounds

Arguments have raged had over it's exact age but 1984 seems most likely. Exact model? Either a Kili or a Conquest. It's definitely made of Reynolds 501 All-Terrain tubing throughout, with vertical Suntour front and rear drop-outs (130mm rear OLD), canti bosses with single spring holes, braze-ons for mudguards and rack, 20.5" centre to centre seat tube (21.5" centre-top), 22" c-c top tube, tyre clearance up to 2.3" (just!), 68mm BB shell, integrated mech hanger and seatpost clamp (QR included), requires a 28.6mm BP front mech, has two bottle cage mounts (with new stainless steel bolts) and a shoulder strap mounting :cool: The only issue with the frame is a light scratch on the fork crown. The forks themselves require 1-2mm more spacing on one side of the front wheel than the other (or a 1-2mm re-dish) and the bottle cages bosses on the downtube don't like bottle cages but these are merely idiosyncrasies IMO. The forks require a very low stack 1" threaded headset. I tried a Stronglight A9 (too tall) and the while the Tange I am currently using is OK, it won't accept the washer under the top nut so I would recommend finding something even lower (Shimano? Ritchey?). There's certainly no room for a cant cable hanger, so I'm chucking in a late '80s Sakae stem with integrated hanger, to which I have fitted a new stainless clamp bolt since I took this photo:

THE WHEELS:
I will probably keep the Exage on Rigida wheels and tyres due to the excessive costs of post (and they weigh a bit!) but if anyone's collecting the frame and forks they are most welcome to make me an offer while I make the brews ;) The Fat Frank tyres cost me 45 quid alone (done approx 50 dry miles), the tubes are also new (lovely threaded valve Continental with gold valve caps fitted) and I have completely restored the wheels, so I'd want at least 65 collected or plus postage :cool:

Shimano MT62 2-finger levers in lovely condition c/w original hoods and rare oversize barrel adjusters (for 8mm brake cable outers) which are NOT shown in the photo:

I guess so, bit resistant in a way due to cost of postage. they've done 50 dry miles and cost me 45 quid the pair, they are the 2.35" version... don't suppose you can collect from Manchester can you? :LOL:
 
It's a tad far away I'm afraid ...just thought they would look good on my univega.....I'm in gorleston Norfolk which is a fair distance to travel for some very pretty tyres

ok sure we could work something out!? you'll need clearance of at least 64mm f&r to fit these babies though
