Which Rim?

The Mavic 231 were probably put on when the originals wore out (great rims)

Mavic 231 were superceed by 217 and in turn 517’s so the latter won’t be a great fit, although the difference between 217 and 517’s isn’t a great deal (apart from the decal)

I bought the bike brand new which makes the rims a little strange.

....id spray the araya rims dark grey and clear coat and use them

 Forgive me questioning the above statement ^^

That’s a new one on me, how would you mask off the side walls (otherwise your brakes won’t function) and even if you did the worlds best job the paint surely it would chip off in no time even with very light to moderate use, and your closing statement is ‘and use them’

Think I’d take the easier route and find grey or black anodised rims.

WTF
Where did you get those from, I’d kill for a set !

I’ve just got to ask, have you actually got all of these rims or just shopping via Google images

I’m searching NOS classified far and wide. The second I decide I’ll get some bought cos some are in Italy, some in the states - typically the ones I don’t really want are free postage in the UK.
