What does period correct mean?

I'm less concerned when its bling parts - ie would keep period shimano kit but happily drop on a set of RS3 cranks.

It also depends a lot on the effect I'm going for - my Vit is going to be Retro-mod. My prestige mid 90's.

Not sure I have the patient for a catalogue build at one stage the prestige was going to be full XC Pro md.
