Today's Ride

Re:

No agenda - just want to get out and ride every day.
So the temperature has stepped up a notch or two, and a lie-in, coupled with a blazing afternoon, meant an early evening ride.

Most of my rides are set around 'mealtimes', as the countryside, consistently, tends to go quiet around breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Even though, to some degree, we are still under curfew, you wouldn't know. Traffic is back, hand in hand with ignorance and stupidity.
The good thing is, out in the sticks things are much quieter. I'm not a people person. I'm not into busy. Peace and quiet is bliss. Full lockdown was bliss. I'm going to miss it.

27°C - even at 7pm. Sun, Sun, sun.
15 miles. Sweating buckets.

Managed to stay on the bike today.

Not had time to get out for a few days but needed to pick my van up from the garage after it's service. Good excuse for a 5 mile blast down to Blaydon & the Tyne.

Re:

Scorchio

31°c and counting...

Absolute belter of a sunny day.

Low humidity makes it manageable, if taking enough fluids along. Energy levels get depleted very quickly otherwise.

Starting to get along with the Mtrax now, all charges have been dropped.
I used to like the Scott AT-3's, but I'm finding them a bit narrow now, especially running a shorter stem. Think I'm going to swap them out for a wider bar, as it feels like I can't quite get the leverage I want.

Anyway. Great ride, about 15 miles in a big loop across the fields to Much Hadham. A bit of road into the village. Then out the other side across the Chaldean Estate. Round the back of one of the golf courses, and a different route home, 'cos it was my turn to do dinner.

Havent been out for a while but a friend suggested going to find a hidden lake he had been told about that, though all three of us have over 150 years between us, not relevant just wanted to ad, we had never been there, or at least didn't think we had.

It was another hot day so we took it steady and headed out to find said mystery lake. Surprisingly we found it without much trouble and once there i realized i had been there many years ago, nether the less, on a nice hot day it sure was a sight for sore sweaty eyes

After a bit of swimming we headed off, coming back through sherwood pines which was busy, though we stayed on the quieter trails that aren't part of the pines routes. Back through nice woods and tracks i haven't rode for years, great to follow someone else for a change, and to the top of a local hill, which in the heat was a chore for all of us. 6 hours later im back at home, totally spent but full of great memories from another great ride and day.

Re:

That's what it's all about!

Not what it's all about is going for a run this morning and getting a calf strain. Fingers crossed I can peddle tomorrow morning.

Had to wait until 7:30 tonight for it to be cool enough for a quick blast around the local woods.

Re:

If I'm honest, I have no idea how far I rode today. I was out between 4 and 7pm. I didn't stop to rest, but I did stop and watch a pair of Red Kites for a while. The app I use has been going haywire over the past couple of days, claiming crazy things, such as covering a mile in 16 seconds, another taking 20 minutes, with a top speed of 91.6mph. Stuff like that. So I have to guesstimate. I'd say I did about 25 miles.

It was another hot one - 31.5°c as I left. Cooling westerly breeze for part of the way home.

Fortunately, my part of the world is quite flat, hills have to be searched for. I read back over some of FairfaxPat's post and see some of the altitudes he used to reach - 1000ft on a regular basis. I'm lucky if I hit a tenth of that. Today I went hill hunting. They were mole hills, but you do what you can.

Re:

Lot's of positive affirmations and a good walk with Cooper last night, plus a good nights rest meant I could peddle without any pain. Walking is a bit wonky but I'll be fine in a couple of days. It was tipping down first thing but had stopped by the time I left which meant a soggy but super-fun ride since the ground is too dry to soak up the rain quickly. The light was spectacular coming through the trees, hitting the ground and creating mist.

Lovely stuff!
