I wouldnt put anything thats shiny in a dishwater,it will ruin the ..er... shininess,after all, youve seen what it does to glass.

Best putting it in the washing machine Not as harsh
I put small bits inside a couple of socks,it protects them from knocking against other parts or the drum.And the majority of the crud stays in the sock
Best use someone elses socks
