Got them out using an old, small woodworking vice that I've had for about 60 years, together with a small socket! The usual CRACK as they released.
And pressed them in using the same method - after much careful filing and trial and error fitting. I found the pressing way of insertion doesn't result in the same jamming or locking you get with "one 'ard hit 'Arry". Simple to remove again yet they still seem a good tight fit.
