Have you tried the reverse bolt trick?

Screw bolt in clamp from other side against a coin in crack to gently spread and hold clamp open.

I hadn't thought of that! But its a very steep bend and I think it'd damage the stem to get it in, based on my prior efforts. Anyway if you're after a Mary I'm happy to swap it - a riser is probably better for my needs anyway. I'll post some pics when I can, might be Saturday mind.
