The big and middle rings come in two pieces, they get moved by the actuator making the movable section line up with the fixed section of the ring above or below. It's seriously funky but a bit useless...at least mine is, right up there with my flex stem and campagnolo mountain bike parts. It does work well in the bike stand, it just hates mud, water, sand, heat, cold and movement.

That said, if those parts come up for sale I could do with some spares!
