If the rim is riveted I'd be tempted to un-rivet it and see if it is a standard rim. How many rivets? You might just be able to get a standard replacement and pop it on (though keeping it straight when doing this would be a trick I think).

I'd not consider repairing the damage as I doubt it would be safe myself.

Im with you on this , if its broke...then fix it  and afterall it was made by humans so can be unmade by humans.
A project as such isnt going to hurt anything. If it doesnt work it doesnt work, but worth a try all the same.
Look to my thread on ratchet rings. Finding- impossible. Buying from the company- wont sell you one. Find busted hub and cut out the ratchet ring :? Sorted :D
Ive sorted 3 hubs that way. Satisfying to say the least.

Re:

There are a few well respected carbon fibre repair companies about the place now who specialise in bike related stuff. Some of the bits they can fix are staggering and certainly debunk the myth that any damage to carbon means a write off.

I'd talk to one of them as while not carbon per se that's the issue they'd know and probably have the capability to bond / rivet a new rim on that'll then stay put!

I think it's a wall hanger, too...

if the rim section is anything like the ones on Zipp or Spin/X-core wheels.
Both are lightweight proprietary extrusions, rather than anything off the shelf.

If it's scrap anyway (and you don't want to hang it on the wall) it might be worth drilling out the rivets and seeing what's going on, like iShaw suggested. You just might be lucky.

All the best,
