SKS Track Pump Spares

Retro Newbie
I need a new head for my old SKS track pump. They are available as an "EVA Head" or a Multi Valve Head". I understand that the EVA head has one hole that accepts any type of valve, and the Multi Valve head has a different hole for different valve types.

Can anyone recommend one or the other. They are both the same price, around £11, maybe cheaper if I shop around.

Thanks

I had a multivalve head on my old pump and I really loved it. You just shoved it over whatever valve and it just worked, no messing around. It was only a cheapy though, and it stopped working with Schrader valves after a while. Can't comment on better quality multi valve heads but it was definitely convenient.

After using one I no longer cared about the price. I had to have it, and ordered one that should be here Monday. Its being installed on a SKS Rennkomperssor.
Presta valve as configured, optional kit to convert to shrader valve.

When my old SKS Track Pump head started giving trouble I replaced it with an SKS dual head. t has separate holes for Presta and Shrader valves. See here :

It works very well except that you have to tighten it up securely otherwise at high pressure the tube blows off and needs reattaching. Probably more a problem with the tube end rather than the head which may need the deformed end cutting back to a fresh bit of hose.

Hi

Thanks for the replies. Flipped a coin and bought a new EVA head for my pump, but am having problems with it. It pumps up the tyre OK, but every time I loose loads of air when I remove it from the valve. Any tips?

Thanks

Paul

Are you sure the air is coming out of the tyre ? Every time I disconnect there is a big air hiss but it is the air under pressure in the connecting hose which is being released. If you really are losing air from the tyre I think you need to develop a quick disconnect movement; get the head off the valve pronto.

Hi all.

I have an aged SKS steel-tubed track pump with an ID of 38.1mm. Sadly the main plunger washer has finally given up. SKS is unable to supply a replacement washer. Does anyone know of a source of something suitable?

Thanks in advance,

Chris

That is sad. I assumed an SKS Track Pump would go on for ever !
SJS Cycles have a load of track pump spares. I have not looked at them all but I notice they have Silca replacement leather washers if they do one in the size you want.

I remember my Dad cutting out washers from of a sheet of leather to keep old car foot pumps going.

Re:

Too small sorry I do remember a larger barrelled one. Somebody somewhere will have a washer good luck !
