It is my understanding that Schwinn bought Yeti from John Parker in the 90's-am I misinformed?

Pretty much. In 1995, Scott Sports, Schwinn's parent company, bought Yeti. The plan was to use the facilities and knowledge to develop the Homegrown brand, but I have it on good authority few were actually made in Durango.

That's porn on 2 wheels :D If the shock does die and it's the same pull shock used on a Lobo, www.BETD.co.uk have some for £25

Schwinn

I was in my LBS today talking to Steve Gravenites-Gravy Wheels-he was the Yeti factory team mech. in the 90's. He said that after Scott USA bought Yeti they continued to make all the high-end bikes in Durango until 1998. The cheaper aluminum and low price bikes were farmed out. He also owns a Straight Eight that was Joe Lawwill's factory ride in the late 90's that looks very much like the one pictured here.
