S-Works M2, details please!

I just picked this up and I’d like to return it to catalog spec as much as possible, but it doesn’t seem to appear in any catalogs online, which is not a good starting point 😂. I gather it’s either 1994 or 1995. I also gather it was either a frame only option or a frame with rigid fork, as there is no “FS” written on the down tube. Does anyone know? Also, it seems weird that it has a threaded (XTR) headset and quill stem, since specialized had moved to non-threaded and conventional stem in 1994. Since it’s an S-Works id like to use a Spesh titanium stem, but quill stem seems wrong for this frame… I could always swap out the threaded Judy’s for non-threaded ones I guess and replace the headset.. maybe some FSX forks? Any thoughts/suggestions welcome!

Decals are from the '95 road bike, so make of that what you will. Respray evidence? What is the serial number (drive side dropout, inside).

I don’t have it yet (paid a deposit) but have asked for a pic of the serial number. Will upload when I get it. Pretty sure it hasn’t been painted - why do you ask?

Here’s the serial number. So ‘95 then. Interesting because there is a ‘95 s-works catalog and this isn’t in it. F4D762C0-4F55-44C9-9CC1-396CAB9E3360.jpeg

The frame used for the XT build kit photos in the catalogue is the Steel not the M2.

It's an interesting one, as the decals are defo from the 'Super' road bike - same as the other bike you posted.

Intriguing!

Damnit I think you’re right. Tubes are too thin in the XT build kit pics for M2. Back to the drawing board

I really like that, interested to see what more you can find out about it. Good luck with the return to catalogue spec!!!
