Romani 'Prestige' Road Bike - late 80s

Jim75

Dirt Disciple
This steel road bike is probably about 25-27 years old; as such there are superficial scratches to the paintwork here and there, but generally the coverage is very good: no signs of rust on the frame and the chrome is in tip-top condition. However, there is some light surface rust on the inside of the front-forks, very minor.
It’s an unusual bicycle in some respects, the seat-tube recessed slightly to allow for a shorter wheelbase – it wass built for criteriums I gather. Can't find any other Romanis like this, so pretty rare.
Gears run smoothly, brakes are pretty sharp, wheels are true, absolutely no play in the bottom-bracket – she’s ready to go. Would suit a height of 5’ 8” to 5’ 11” I would have thought.

[Note, lock, lights and computer not included.]

"Romani was a company based in the town of Sala Baganza in the province of Parma. It was a rather a big and well respected builder. Established in 1924, the company had its peak in the mid 1970s up to mid 1980s Surprisingly you rarely saw many bikes with the Romani brand because much of their production was third party frames. Virtually any shop in the Parma/Reggio Emilia/Modena area that had a shop brand but who did not build in-house, would have bought from Romani. They also built for many exporters. It is said that the two Romani brothers were involved with the Colner production and also had a collaboration with Colnago. Catalogues show that Romani made frames of Columbus SL, SLX, TSX tubes or Reynolds tubing. They closed down in the early 1990s."

Bump, with a few modifications: a white turbo saddle instead of the Vetta one, and a pair of cleated Campag pedals - (I need the ones pictured for a new build). I think they are these:

I will be taking new pictures at the weekend, although I do have pictures I could send now with the white turbo saddle and the white-walled tyres it presently rides.
