Roberts Roughstuff

What tyre clearance are you getting up front? I’ve ordered a pair of paselas for mine but already wishing I went with Rene herse.

Hello!
I get about 49mm wide, at the fork crown, and with a 1.8” Naches Pass measuring 41mm on a M231 rim, there’s decent clearance.

Cheers Dude. It has the same fork crown as mine. It’s just hard to stomach the price. Maybe I need to nag my boss to get a trade account with Sven.

If it helps, I liked these tyres enough (road and dry gravel) to buy a set in 700c (knobbly, Hurricane Ridge) for my gravel bike. Would buy again.

I had a 650x38mm pair maybe 6 years ago on a vintage Raleigh. Remembering what a tyre was like 6 years ago isn’t easy…

Big fan all things Renne Herse, even if those supple sidewalls on the Humptulips have given me more pinch flats in the past 6 months than I've ever encountered before in my life!

Maybe I'm doing something wrong tho. Like riding them?

Love this bike! As said above, something about it just works. Look forward to seeing more…

Hear you on the Humptulips, have 700c steilacomms which I love, the 26’s - grip incredible, but the sidewalls…… I’m running tubeless so no pinches but anything lower than 35psi, it all gets a bit sloppy and everything washes out. 😢
I fear I might have to switch them out for a set of Simworks or ultradynamico 💸

Tried swapping the bars for a set of Specialized / WTB RM2.
I’ve temporarily fitted to get the angles correct, and trying some TRP brake levers for the slightly more modern ergonomics.
Can I check with the Retrobike experts?
I can get the lever height about right depending on the angle of the bars, and moving the brake up/down the bar itself.
Usually, on a road bike or with a more traditional bar shape, I would always align the drop part horizontally, then move the brakes up as needed, trying to get the end of the lever about in line with the end of the bar (generally leads to a flattish transition to the hood too.
Here, however, and looking at pictures online, seems that the bars should angle a bit down, and moving the brakes also significantly changes the vertical alignment.
Any tips?
Bike is pretty much level in the photos, and yes, I think I need to nose-up the saddle a bit.

no expert as ever fitted such, but do look touch too high-up on the bar to me... I'd see what feels good for the arms/wrists/hands when sat in the saddle, imagine you'd be on hoods or the bend of the drops and want to reach the levers, so further down, forward etc. makes the most sense to me.

ps. i think these bars seem the best choice of set-up so far
