Replacing the big ring on an XT m739 4 bolt Crankset

Also, Shimano changed the design very slightly at some point. You won’t know until you find out the outer ring wobbles once you’ve tightened at as far as the ring will go.

On the later ones the back of the spider where the ”lockring” faces to the spider has about a 1mm flange (it’s actually material removed compared the those without a flange. Requires finding a suitable washing/spacer, which is fractionally larger internal diameter than a cassette spacer...
 
A have already seen someone cutting most of the outer ring off, leaving the holes for middle chainring there, and using a NW chainring attached to the four holes. Just something to consider, might be a cheap way to bring the cranks back to use. Haven't tried myself, but one day... As I also have the crankset with worn chainrings .)

A bit of rainy day man-cave entertainment. It's actually quiet involved work, but looks great with a single FSA Pro DH 36T ring.
