Don't want to burst your bubble but there's not much pointing to Raleigh with that one, frame number, stay caps and braze on's all look wrong. By 87 some frames had Raleigh embossed stay caps and some had small sbdu style stay caps. They did use a similar fork crown but so did other builders (Dawes?). Looks like an older respray to me, those colours have long been popular and desirable.

That is possible, you never know what to expect when you buy a bare frame, I am not a Raleigh specialist at all, I am still happy with the frame and the paint job does look genuine (but I could be wrong).

Now I've seen the number stamping it doesn't look like a Raleigh to me, firstly the under bracket cable guide would not obscure the frame number plus the stamping looks all wrong.

It's anyone's guess what it is - painted in a popular livery (Raleigh-Weinmann and latterly Panasonic, livery always referred to as"Team").

I don't know about Raleigh Serial numbers but I had a Peugeot with the bracket cable guide that was obscuring the frame number so it may be possible for a Raleigh too ?

Instead of searching for what it's not though you should try to match the numbering system to another builder, or just build it and ride it.

These 501 built bikes never featured in the catalogue, as it was mainly an 18-23 tubed bike.

Seemingly, someone at Nottingham decided to build a quantity with what would (I guess) have been either Record Sprint or Quasar frames, as they were only ever Reynolds 501 equipped.

I've seen quite a few crop up on eBay, albeit that you might also find the 'odd' Team Corsa which is 501 frame and forks, but was only built in 1986 to the best of my knowledge (this is mine viewtopic.php?f=23&t=267023&p=2000704#p2000704 ) this is equipped with Shimano 105 Golden Arrow group set, which will distinguish it from the Cadet which will have Sachs Huret front and rear mechs, and the 'standard' Raleigh Custom Chainset

That's my plan anyway, I am gonna build it no matter what frame or brand it is, i like it and it's quite light, it would just be cool to know more about it

Sometimes you never pin down the builder, I don't follow the main factory frames but they did build in 501, but the numbering system started with N as far as I know, what I do know is the better frames had a W prefix, as they were first made at Worksop then later at the Nottingham lightweight unit.

Hi sorry about the delay in reply. I can rebuild a bike but have struggled to work out how to upload photo's!!

Anyway I've done some research and am 99% sure its a Raleigh Team Corsa in the white with red, blue and yellow Panasonic colours with a Reynolds 501 frame. It still has the 'kelloggs' sponsor on the top tube. I still need to remove the Gear cable guide to get the whole frame number but its probably from around the mid 1980's. It seems straight and honest but will need a frame respray which I can do. The rest of the components are in good order. Is it a worthwhile restoration project or should I just strip it for parts (although that seems a shame). I have been working on a 1979 Raleigh Record in black which although has taken me loads of time has been rewarding (but probably not financially rewarding). Hopefully I can get some pictures loaded.

I wouldn't get hung up on that, you don't have a Raleigh frame number, so look for a brand that used one like yours if you want to know the maker.
