B benjy Retro Guru Feb 27, 2014 #1 hi all. got a newish rear hub and its got play in the cassete alread. its a cheap no name one but came on a branded bike. anyway is abit of play ok? gears seam fine ect just wondering if other hubs get play with use( cheaper ones ) thanks

Buy yourself a locking tool and check, they're only cheap. Just slot it into the cassette locking and tighten it up using an adjustable spanner. http://www.singletrackbikes.co.uk/m8b24 ... wwodJi4Auw

M mattr Old School Grand Master Mar 4, 2014 #5 Some freehubs do have a degree of play. Especially ones that run on a bush rather than bearings. Cheapo hub *could* be one of those with a bush.
