Hello guys,

Just found this great resource forum and i was thinking to make a thread with restauration progress to help other ppls or get some great advices .

Few time ago i was found to my country house a 1975 Peugeot PA10L , stored in a box , all original, except saddle, seat post, chain, freewheel and 2 break pads with holders. Bike was staying there for like 15 years or more.
Equipment :
- transmision is a Stronglight cottered cranks , 52/45
- front and rear derraileur - Simplex prestige
-Simplex friction shifters
- Wheels are Mavic with tubular tires,
- Notmandy high flange hubs
- Simplex quick release
- Casset was Atom 14-21 , now running a Shimano UG 14-24
- break - Mafac Racer and Mafac Course break levers - white
- Ava stern and handlebar
- Liotard pedals and Hristophe toe clips

What i intend to do - restore and put it back on the road. Was running excelent when i use it. Need to change shifters and break cables, break pads and try to find a high gear Sunrace or Atom freewheel, chain and tubulars tires.

Some photo - disasemled , like i was finding , ready to be cleaned :

Next stage is to remove few surface rust from chromed parts, bolt and nuts and then go to last stage machined polish. For this one i need to find a friend with that kind of machine 😅.
On stern, handlebar and wheels is alot of work and can't be done manually .

Problem found so far : headset bearings balls need to be replaced and i miss 1 washer from Simplex shifter 🥺 - if i will buy a few washers and the piece i miss - 40$ ...from France - this is the " advantage " you want vintage parts all originals.
Bearing balls not in good condition:

I have to disasamble and clean breaks and a few more small parts, then i will start with the frame : clean, derust, clay bar decontamination , 1 stage polish, protect, maybe touch up paint .
Now, i have a question please : i am not sure which products to use to deal with rust and not affect chromed parts and paint from frame - here i think i need 2 different products 😅 Any imput will be greatly appreciated.

Regards ,

Thank you for your imput guys ! Now i am thinking to use one of the 3 products for the final rust cleaning : oxalic vs ctric acid or Deox C Bilt Hamber ? What do you think? Also , is a good iddea to fully submerge the frame in one of this products? Thanks?

Great work there.

I don't have the answer for your frame yet, but I'm in a similar position too - just need to get light rust off without damaging the paint.

I wrote to BiltHamber techs and wait for the answer too, will post it here. I think Deox C is main citric acid...
