NHS - Envy of the world?

I reckon that the public sector (I am a teacher) suffers from an overabundance of middle management and a very poor standard of management that refuses to accept change in its own structure and (self) promotion.

Hmm. Actually that nicely sums up the whole of the education sector to a T - I work in a private sector school and there are similar abundances of hurdles to progress/change, stuffed shirts and luddites. :(

David

I've been lucky that at my school new senior management have swept away a lot of middle management puddings and the place seems much more vibrant for it.

A lot of the management models the nhs use seem hopelessly outdated.

The people that work under these barbaric cuts are a godsend to us all
Tell that to the families in Mid Staffs.

And in any case the NHS budget is protected. It spends more now than ever before.

Phrases like 'barbaric cuts' is total hyperbole when spending is rising, the debt is doubling and any overall projected savings were around 2% or going back to the spending levels of just a handful of years ago. Was the NHS barbaric in 2005? Or is it only barbaric when it's Tories in charge?

The left would be funny if it wasn't so dangerous. Illiterate socialists were out in Shawlands today campaigning about the 'bedroom tax', which as anyone who went to school knows isn't a tax at all. If they don't know (or choose to confuse) what simple terms like taxes and cuts actually mean why would anyone trust them to run our economy?

What is your background knowledge here wee lass?

In see that Bristol and the treatment of child heart patients is in the news again..........huge impact way back when as it was decided (quite rightly) that children should be treated by paediatric specialists.

Massive cost to the NHS but money well spent IMHO.

Sorry, didn't realise that I alone had to have an approved background knowledge to satisfy your comment guidelines. My bad.
