MTB Wheels - Spoke Advice Please

Thanks Fluffychicken. SJS have limited sizes at the moment in the competition.

I’m using the Trek shop in Bath so don’t know what jig they’re using. I’m at the limit of my technical knowledge and capabilities and figured a professional will do it properly.

Ive got a note in my wheelbuilding diary, that says "use 266mm front" for that combo.

When i calculated it it came up as 265, but they must have been a tad short. But that was probably in 1991 i wrote that!

Dear community.

To check for 32h Mavic 231 with M900 Hubs

Rear - 16 x 264 and 16 x 266

Front - 32 x 266

I see no reason a 32h would be different length to 36h but you guys are the experts.

Thanks.

The distance between the spoke holes on the hub is just a few mil, but the distance at the rim is a few cm, so fewer spokes will lie at a steeper angle to the radius on a crossed-spoke wheel.

Thus having more spokes around the wheel means shorter spokes...
and the number of crosses increases the difference.

36⁰ 26" wheels take spokes around 4mm shorter than 32⁰ on the same model hub and rim.

radials doesn't matter obvs🤣
