I picked this frame up at the weekend, (thanks Rob), and had intended to get it powder coated and generally smartened up. However when I saw it I fell in love with the raw finish,

particularly the brass fillet welds on the seat stays.

So, I've run a green scourer over it, and I'm going to try linseed oil on it. (Thanks for the suggestion Paul.)

For the moment, I intend to keep it rigid and use it as my daily work bike.

I'm undecided between pace RC30s and a pair of titanium UGLI forks.

if I go with the UGLIs, I'm kind of tempted to strip them to match the rest of the frame.

Please do comment, RC30 or UGLI forks, if UGLIs stripped or painted?

UGLIs at present:

Re: MT4 work bike

retro scale ;)

UGLIs are indeed ugly ;) I would go for the lighter of those 2 forks, if that is UGLI than paint it in the same color as frame or color that goes well with the one you chose for the frame.

Re:

The build is taking shape, in my head at least.
Component choice is influenced by wanting a lightweight British flavour while using what's in the shed.

Re:

Spent some time today throwing bits together.

Couple of compromises so far.
front mech is a deore lx, cos that's what I've got, until I get an xt mech in the right size.

Seat post is going to be a Fred Salmon, cos it's cheap and British

Turns out my x-lite bars are on my daughter's m300 so I've used some no name ti bars.

Re:

Fred Salmon post is ordered, but probably won't be here for a few days:

Went into the shed and was having another go at removing the stuck seat post from my Scott frame. Guess what, it came out ok.... ......and it's a 26.4 which I need for the mt4.

Re:

Been riding my MT4 to work for the last couple of days.

It's a cracking ride but there are a few things I'm going to change.

Flat bars are going to be replaced by some risers.

UGLI forks are cracked so RC30s are going on.

I ended up thinking the hope silver stem and headset were too much silver so I'm going to try a Thomson or Syncros stem in black

RS7 and UNO are temporary till I can fit the RS2s and a front mech.

All your photobucket pics in the first few posts - they are gone? I cant seem to find them.

Ah it is shame about UGLIs...
I just want to remind you to weight it after you finish it. ;)
