The approach to design, the engineering and the workmanship sets them apart from most others in my view. Don't think anyone at the time was taking such an holistic approach to frame design. Nowadays though people seem much more keen to acquire a pretty ordinary FAT than an early Racelite. Always seems puzzling to me...

Ross Mt Whitney

Sometime around '83 or '84, I had my Ritchey repainted and some braze-ons added. While it was in work, I got a Ross Mt Whitney from the guy who handled marketing for Ross. (He was a regular at events like Crested Butte, and I also knew him from tradeshows where we both displayed.) Anyway, I rode the heck out of that bike. While it certainly wasn't a Ritchey, it was a well made bike and rode well. I kept it as a loaner for years before selling it. This link appears to show a similar bike, though I think mine may have been preproduction http://mombat.org/1984_Ross_Mt_Whitney.htm. Note the gussets at the base of the steering tube.
