I wanted to post to say a big thank you to Retrobike member @Splatter Paint .
His fantastic Karma ad means I now have a perfect workhorse of a bike for work.
I made a few changes to get it running how I wanted - parts bin RD LX m570, Alvio brake/shifters, new cables and housings, 8sp cassette fitted to some wheels @Splatter Paint sold me at a bargain price - it's all ready apart from tyres and tubes.
Thanks to all the forum members who make this place a great place to be.

I echo the same appreciation of the forum, I've not been able to do much to help others as yet, but the advice support and parts from here harks back to the times the bikes were made, and the comeradre and memories are brilliant.
One of my car friends when I first met him, he recognised my car, gave me a couple of parts he would never use as he was a ford guy, I had a mini,
I was blown away, he said to me something that I never forget.. " we all have the same disease ignore the brand, we can all help each other "
and I have been very pleased to ring him when finding bargain spares at car boots etc in years past.. became a very good friend and we have helped each other a great deal. Well done gents, enjoyed seeing this, and great when we can help each other.

Very good karma!

A guy once gave me a set of webber carbs and a manifold for a mk1 ford escort which I new I couldn’t fix. But it’s the thought that counts

That quote is now my signature😉

@enigma, exactly this!
The willingness of people to help on this forum makes a welcome change to day to day madness that we seem to be facing daily at the movement. Humanity wins!

On another note, @enigma and @Mod-Master, are you both oldskool Ford guys?
My mate is currently building a Mk1 Escort. He's currently around £60k deep! 😮 Crazy to think that they were going for scrap in the late 80's!

No, I also had a mini at the time(I mean, not a full one just the engine…..) now that I think of it the Webber carbs could’ve been of use..
My dads a bit of an old school ford bloke. He had a mk1 and an rs turbo I think.

And yes they are incredibly expensive nowadays😵‍💫

I am not a ford guy ive got long neglected projects of two minis an early mk1 and a clubman , and two land rovers a defender and a v8 series 2...
I bought a house so they took a break. thirty year old defender is my regular drive, Hopefully have the two land rovers on the road this year, and get on with the minis before the mad max style petrol wars begin..!
I joke the '95 defender ive had for 13 yrs is my luxury car, as its the only car I won with five gears, and a heater that works! Guess that's how I fit in here.. when kids at the school I work at ask what cars I like, I reply.. "I dont like cars with plastic bumpers."
Guess that's the same with bikes, I try things but always my want and desire is steel and rigid, and simple so far!
