Mavic gone tits up

Actually I do remember it taking months for my local bike shop to obtain a mavic axle (that snapped during a race in the 90s). I sold the wheel on afterwards.

Re:

Gutted to hear this. Not normally a fan of state support but this is an iconic Co that should be protected. Who knows all this ‘talk’ of a new golden age of cycling could return it to a healthy profitability.

Last years (since 2017 more less) they had made some mistakes, now Cross max are not the best wheel set, you can see rims with cross max logos with shimano even deore hubs.

Now they have lost the path, and I don´t know why because the old formula works fine :(

Hmmm...Disputed ownership between two US-based private equity companies (one owned by the chairman of the other) with no cycle experience, sold to them by a Finnish private equity sports fashion brand house that had no interest in wheels, no investment or innovation for years due to so...sound like a right f**k-up of a decent company by international asset strippers with no idea of what they have.

"...sales that are now in free-fall – from €130 million a year in 2015 to barely half of that, €70 million last year, itself a 20.5 per cent decline on 2018’s €88 million. On that 2019 turnover of €70 million, the business made a net loss of €12.8 million."https://road.cc/content/news/mavic-rece ... ome-273345

Maybe a merger with Look/Corima group down the road in Loriol and DT-Swiss in Biel to make a Rhone valley super-manufacturer with a real cycling focus?

All the best,

Still plenty around at the higher end of that weigh range, and a few lightweight outliers:

Still uncertain future, with the deadline for a decision now extended to the 19th June.
With no one big buyer for the whole company in one go, the receivers are now looking for at least 500 employees and outside enthusiast investors for some sort of crowd-funding, public share offer system:

You could have a share of MAVIC for as little as 200 Euros.

All the best,

I think this is a problem with many companies who trade on their past reputation. Many dont seem to understand that brand loyalty is just not a thing for younger consumers. 1 bad run of products and it's over. Very sad, most of best 2 wheeled memories have been on mavics, especially the 26" rerolled ma40s.....
