Looking for advice - shipping a bike from Germany to the UK

Hello Retrobikers,

I am trying to ship a bike from Germany to the UK. The seller wants me to manage the process as he originally didn’t want to ship to the UK which is fair enough.

What’s the cheapest way of shipping a bike from Germany to the UK? Who are the best carriers?

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Cheers,
Ryan

A few weeks ago I got a Stumpjumper, complete bike but without wheels, from Germany. It was via ebay but the seller had not offered UK postage, so the costs and organising of the shipping (done by him) was all outside eBay.
It cost 50 euros with DHL "Standard International", and took 5 days from dispatch to receipt.

hi, the problem is the maximal package size.
DHL, by far the most common and professional one in Germany is only accepting 120x60x60cm max. and (L + 2xW + 2xH) has to be <300 cm.

With that it hard to find a proper box, typical bike boxes you can get from dealer where they get new bikes with, are much taller, but even more importantly, it's hard to impossible to squeeze in a bike incl. wheel set into this smaller box.
The Frame alone is much easier to ship.
