KPT restoration with starting pics

Retro Newbie
Hi - new member here. Just starting out on a restoration project of my Raleigh Kellog's Pro Tour so thought I'd stick a few pics of it before I get going.

To give a bit of background, this is my own bike from when I was young, my parents bought if for my birthday (I guess must have been around my 15th/16th birthday given the 88/89 vintage of this bike, although I cant honestly remember exactly! I used it a fair bit at the time and then it got stuck in the garage where it sat for probably 20 years or so. I spotted it in my parents garage about a year ago and dug it out, and its been in my garage since then sat on the turbo trainer, so it's not had any road use in a long time.

Now, the plan is to get this bike into a decent enough state for a sportive I'm doing in August this year. Its one I did last year on my regular roadie but this year I'm thinking it would nice to wheel the old girl out again and give her some fresh air. So given the relatively short amount of time between now and August, my general plan is firstly to make sure she's safe (new cables all round, new brakes, wheels, tyres etc) and then once the sportive is out the way, go to work on the cosmetics (bar tape, saddle etc, tidy up the paintwork etc). My only concessionw to modernity will be a set of SPD-SL pedals, some better wheels and brakes. If I can get hold of a 105 rear mech from ebay I'll stick that on too.

As you'll see from these pics, she's completely as she was is the 80s, except for a rear tyre, everytihng else is totally standard, even down to the original Raleigh front tyre! Condition-wise, she's doing not too bad. A bit of rust on the chrome (pedals mainly) and a few spots around the joints but overall not to shabby for almost 30 years old!

Anyway, enjoy. There'll be many more pics to come as things go forward. Any tips/advice is most welcome.

Cheers
