Hi people im relatively new to this site so please let me know if im posting incorrectly ..
So here is my problem Im trying to update a 1994 Kona Explosif with a xtr m952 groupset it has gone really well apart from the front mech . So I fitted a M950 E type with the carbon bracket as the tubbing on the bottom of the seat post isn't round to take a clamp on mech . My issue is the cable when changing down from the large cog is missing the guide in the mech and not changing in a reliable fashion . I tried changing the cable routing guide for a new Shimano SP18M but this made no difference . It does seem that the problem is the alignment between the cable guide and the guide in the mech , I have looked for alternative guides but can't seem to find any suitable options . Any advice would be really appreciated . thanks Jamie

You should be able to run an m953 front mech as they have a high clamp which would/should sit higher than your oval tube section.

Thanks for the reply guys yes I am aware that it will work with a high clamp front mech ,
having now purchased the E-type version I was wandering if it was possible to get it working

does anyone have any alternative options for a cable guide apart from the standard Shimano one to solve the above problem

thanks Jamie

Just checking you have the right mech as the m95x range was designed to be either top cable pull or bottom cable pull, not multi as on later mechs.

The mechanical side of the m95x range is very similar throughout when it comes to the cable clamp so I can't visualise what you mean when you say the cable is missing the guide in the front mech, as from experience there isn't really any guide as such, just cable crimp bolt on top of a pivot.

ishaw thanks for your reply , yes it definitely is a bottom pull version , when I set it up and initially click into the higher gears it works fine at this point the cable has come away from the guide in the mech which is just a narrow channel . the problem arises when I click down the gears and the cable doesn't locate back in the groove . On inspection the cable doesn't seem aligned between the mech and the bb cable guide thus making me wander if different options in cable guide are available .

so here are some photos of the issue , the first two show the cable not quite locating in the guide when clicking down the gears, the third is on the way up correctly seated in the guide as does photo 4 from the other side
thanks in advance Jamie
