Its been pretty quiet on the old Tax dodging Tory toff

Re:

Let's not forget the Millibands changed their fathers will AFTER he died to avoid tax. Nothing illegal has been done by Cam, he's played by the rules unlike Putin and various communist leaders. I detested offshore evaders like everybody else. Why should most of us grunts pay all the frikin taxes when most multinationals pay f-all.

So if you had millions to pass on to your kids, would you

A) look into legal tax planning techniques to minimise the tax impact or

B) do nothing and hope for the best?

I agree, but the way in which they seem to wait until they are pushed before they acknowledge their activities fly in the face of public opinion that is getting on a lot of people's wicks and wickettes.

But the rules have been made up by those with the cash to benefit those with the cash, while the rest of society seems able to do naff all about it. Just hope that a corrupt press owned by the folk with the cash will hold the folk with the cash to account! Cos the tax payer funded BBC won't do it because they are beholden to the folk with the cash.
It would make a really good tragi-comedy film script except no-one would believe it because it's too far fetched!

The real wheeze though is that the Tories manage to persuade lot's of folk who are moderately well off that they are fighting their corner so they vote for them, but the reality is they are getting shafted almost as hard as the folk on welfare!

Mugs.

So how much "cash" does one need to be in the "those with the cash" gang rather than a deluded moderately well off person?

Got a pension..? In which case; you're in the "gang". Alternatively everyone could of course insist that their pension investments are made in the UK, and that all taxes are therefore paid at the highest rate to the UK exchequer.
Much of the population of the UK are tax avoiders, they just don't know it.

If you're not a millionaire, or likely to be one soon, then you are a mug if you vote Tory IMHO.

Including property/pension savings, or just liquid assets/cash?

We're getting to splitting hairs a bit but I would discount the main family home and investments tied up in pension funds. All other property and investments would count.

Probably a lot more than most of us realise.

Let's face it, anyone of working age with a job that is above the tax credit threshold is a cash cow for taxation and tax appears to be disproportionately levied at this sector. The super rich may pay a lot of tax (if they pay any tax at all.......), but that's because they are super rich! The vote winning grey pound is off limits leaving the young and vulnerable to take the hit in all benefit cuts. This strategy will start to unravel as grandma doesn't like to see grandson / granddaughter without a future owing to their vote, especially if that vote keeps the very very wealthy, very very wealthy (unfairly).
