Is drinking safe? Government guidelines - fact or fiction?

Re: Is drinking safe? Government guidelines - fact or fictio

I once spent an evening watching a 7ft+ 46 yr 30 stone Irish man drink over 50 pints and get up and then casually walk out of the pub

All righty... I once rode with a mate from N London over 200 miles on my mountainbike on hard pumped up nobbly tyres, including a good section of the SDW to catch the 94 TDF, then all the way back to N London and still had enough energy to go out rave/clubbing that night till 6am. Suffice to say a mere fraction of that these days would prove fatal to me

Ok, 5 day trip on a virtual non lander to Sweden on a casino ship with all the other pleasures onboard. This was in the days of duty free. Had a cabin and saw it for about an hour. Saw Gothenburg for about that too. I remember very little. I'm sure it was very nice.

If i tried that now i would be dead.

I think that when you get to a certain age, one evening is all you can cope with - any more is a killer.

Have to say, though - never really understood it - what's the big draw to getting shitfaced on booze? I don't get it.

I can understand mildly drunk - I see the loss of inhibitions, the "social lubricant" so to speak. But as tantamount to waving your wang around, or consuming as much as possible, I don't understand.

Is it some narcisstic self-destruction, or Tyler-Durden-esque desire to hit rock bottom?

It is something that was done in younger days, as per the last post - i am too old to cope now.

The reason for attraction - i have no idea.
