Hi,

I have an XT front mech that is a bit oxidised / scaley that I would like to clean up. Does anyone have any tips to turn an oxidised front mech into a peachified front mech? @Peachy!

Open bin, put scaled mech in bin. Buy mech in good nick for 30 bucks.

If the chrome parts are scaly, there is not much you can do. If the clamp/aluminium parts are oxidized, you can try and sand them down (if pitted) and polish. It's a lot of work though..

Pics added, tips welcomed

I could be wrong but using 0000 steel wool and a bit of wd40 might work to remove the oxidation. I’d go extra slow/light handed in general, very light over the printing at first, and maybe do an inconspicuous spot test. Not positive that it wouldn’t scratch but I’ve had luck with 0000 on shiny parts. Autosol or Mothers for a polish afterwards if needed.

that looks like lacquer damage
Strip it all off roughly, then polish or customised spray paint it back. You'll loose the lettering but that's damaged anyway.

I was expecting a well rusted cage and bolts and bushing bit.
