Run a WI eccentric hub on my 94 DeKerf - looks neat, doesn't require any ugly tensioners and means you can just revert the frame to a geared build when you like.

They smoke pipes and wear monocles.

Pretty damned expensive as well, if you want a good one. Cheap ones creak and lose adjustment. If your bottom bracket shell isn't big enough, you'll need an external eccentric BB, which is restrictive as to what parts you can use and also spendy - http://www.trickstuff.de/en/products/exzentriker_KL.php

seriously, unless you can just stick a chain on (maybe with a half link?) and it happens to be the right tension (it does happen sometimes), then a simple chain tensioner is your cheapest option.
I ran an On One 26'er like that for a while , when I decided that singlespeed was definately for me I changed to a singlespeed specific frame.

Well, I suppose that counts as a simple chain tensioner, really. Works for agressive DH, no reason why it won't work for SS.
