Giant XtC Team XC race bike - reluctant sale

Broken Biker

Retro Newbie
Hello there folks, I have been directed to you by some friends on my Motorcycle forum because I have a beautiful bike to sell.

This bike is my absolute pride and joy and is something I am being forced to sell due to failing health. I have considered E-Bay, but I don't want some nerd buying it and then coating it with Halfords black enamel paint and naff parts.

I started Mountain Biking in 1990 and always wanted that dream bike, eventually working my way up to an 1994 Orange Clockwork that I eventually crashed while racing and damaged. Following that I had a custom made frame (similar in style to a DeKerf, but British) that is now hanging on my bedroom wall as art. After that, in 2004, I started on the Giant Project with the intention of racing her. Sadly that never happened and as my health has since failed me, my bike sits as just a painful reminder of how much I love my sport. So she has to go. :(

The Frame is a Medium Giant XtC Team Edition hard tail bike, seen modeled here by Alby, our pet barn owl.

Being an old school lass, the gear levers are Shimano Deore DX 7Spd Thumbies running a Deore 8Spd Cassette.

The Brakes are Hope closed system, XC twin piston hydros front and rear.

Gearing is a combination of cool parts, Sun Tour XC Pro MD cranks, with a replacement large ring and a Middleburn middle (42 - 32 - 20). Forks are Marzocchi Bomber Flylight 100 Air sprung open oil damped forks, Seen here resting in the daisies a while back.

.

Wheels are hand built and debadged, Mavic XC rims, DB sapim spokes with Continental tyres (both road and trail come with her). The Handle Bar is a Tioga carbon Fiber, branded as Bike Hut and the Seat Pin is a Syncros Titanium unit. Saddle is a WTB ladies with blue sides printed with silver flowers. However, I have not been able to ride this for a long time so a cheap one is currently fitted.

Deraileurs are Shimano XT and work well, the chain is a new SRAM unit. I change my chain every five hundred miles and have not ridden since this was done last year.

I am sure that you have noticed that every bolt that is safe to change has been changed for aluminium, these are from the Motorcycle supplier Hyperbolt and are very high quality.

This is a reluctant sale and is based entirely on my now poor health. I would love to get £600 for her, but I know that as much as I love her, others may not see her the same so if this price is not realistic, do please make me an offer that you feel is more suitable, after all, I can only say no if I think that it is too low. ;)

Anyway, I am not sure if you are used to such a rambling sales pitch and I thank you for you time and any comments that you may have. In case you are wondering, I have not given up on two wheels altogether, as I have this lovely little toy now!

Ok, many thanks.

The price is currently £600.

She is a nice bike and it will break my heart to sell her.

Boing.

Looks like £600 was optimistic. Price now £500.

If this does not sell her, it looks like another frame is going to get hung on the wall as art. :D

 Would members recommend breaking her down and selling off the bits separately?
