Fork crown race fitting?

hmmmm have been trying to get the race off the fork

" turn fork upside down and tap around race with hammer and screwdriver"

Can this be done without destroying anything? On both forks the race is pretty flush with nothing showing to connect a screwdriver too? :? and what is showing doesnt feel like it wants to move easy ?? :?

I use an old tube from a 'Henry' hoover to install the race...........works a charm, it does!

If the race is fairly flush as you say, some folks have recommended using a stanley knife blade inserted to give you something to bash...........the proper tool is something like this:

a lot dearer than the standard fork shaped one, unfortunately!!

Sorted :D

Used the heat method, and a slowly slowly catch the monkey!!

My problem is still doing things for the first time and always a measure 10 times and cut once man

Old adjustable spanner does the job nicely...tighten the flats up around the steerer and tap the race on
