Eddy Merckx frame- junk or worth rebuilding?

MatthewOwen

Retro Newbie
Hello- I picked up this frame yesterday from someone clearing out a garage (for free!) thinking it might be a gem. It's unmarked but I've tried to do some googling and suspect it's made by falcon- do you think that's right?

If it is Falcon different reports seem to suggest wildly different things from it being made of 'gas pipe' to Reynolds 351. Does anyone know what's more likely? It's got an unmarked cheap looking crank set attached but don't know if that was original or added later.

Interested for your opinions before I spend too much on it!

Matt

Re:

That's from the gas-pipe end of the market I would say.

Still a good find as it looks pretty cool. If I had it, I'd wait until the cycle jumble scene starts back up and fit it out with cheap old parts.

It would make a good pub/student bike.

Re:

Oh yeah I hadn't noticed that the stickers were the wrong way round.

Ok great thank you. I do think it looks cool- I like the chrome and the fact that Eddy had his own face on his bike. So maybe I'll just polish it and retouch some of the paint and put it on a wall somewhere. It's probably on the smallish side anyway.

Thanks!
Matt
