Down tube shifters - band on to braze on convertor

I remember having to grind down the back of the shifters using a Dremel. I may have a pic somewhere of what needs removing.

Is there anything that stops rotation other that cable tension in the low directly?

That interface looks really similar to these below, the tab on the arabesque is a bit smaller and in a slightly diff spot, yes, but it may mean a standard shim indexing washer can serve as an adapter. If anything you would have a bit more rotation, rather than too little, I would guess.

That is what it looks like in the blog post. Might be worth a shot before grinding, if you have standard posts. If you are friendly with the local shop they might even let you try one on for size, if you don't have one.
