Dave Lloyd Frame Register

Re:

Thanks - that's quite a bit older than I expected ! It really is in remarkable condition then for its age - I suspect it's spent at least a couple of decades sat in a garage somewhere gathering dust before finally being chucked out this weekend, as aside from a couple of scratches (probably inflicted when it was slung on the scrap metal bin at the tip) it's in pretty much perfect nick.

What a shame no one has had the benefit of riding it for so long, though I have to confess to feeling slightly daunted by the prospect and cost of tracking down age appropriate campy stuff to build it back up with !

That's why I went the Clubman's route, using all sorts of quality components from around the right year.

Can you take a full side on shot for the frame and forks, from both sides if possible, that will give us a much better impression of the age, but the over BB cable guides and the decals are a bit of a giveaway.

Re:

So, campy crank date code is 1980 (0 inside a circle), placing the cranks at least as slightly later than expected.

I've taken a couple more pics as requested, do these help ?

Please forgive the tip of a workbench - too many projects and too little time !

Re:

That is a different design to either of my two early ones. It looks so good it could have been refinished, but I don't think it has because of the decals.

Only one cable guide says possibly a TT bike, I can't tell the geometry just by looking, my eye is not well enough educated, it's tall though.

Rear wheel spacing might give us a few more clues, 120mm would suggest earlier and 126 later 1970's, but the lack of stand offs on the bottle cage mounts and the cable guides on the top tube suggest later rather than earlier..... I'm going round and round in circles here.

Take a look at the inside of those crank arms please and see if you can spot a number... before I guess myself to death.

Re:

Finally had a chance to get back in the workshop and get the calipers out - the rear dropouts are 123mm apart, so I guess that's supposed to be a tight fit for 126mm rear end rather than a sloppy 120mm ?

The date stamp on the crank is 1980 - a 0 inside a circle, however I suppose that only dates the cranks and not the frame definitively.

Re:

1980 could be spot on.

A tight 126 I'd say.

I built my 1978 Lloyd using a mix of parts that would have been available to the average clubman at the time, some Campag, some Shimano, MAFAC, I bought some Mavic rims from France to lace onto Campag hubs. I even bought ribbed brake cable outer, lots of fun.

Enjoy your bike, it's a cracker.

Re:

Hi! Do you have informations about my Dave Lloyd with we frame number LL94996 (tubes, year...)? The last 9 could be also a 0 or 8, it‘s difficult to read.
It is completely impossible to get any informations here in Germany.

Thanks,

Ro

Re:

LL94996 is an ATB made in Deda Zero and originally supplied to a company called Cycle Craft. ATB may be a Cats Wiskas, or it may be one of Dave's other designs, the register does not show the differences in MTB models.

LL94998 is a Lo Pro made of Reynolds 753 and supplied to a gent called Neil Lawson.

LL94990 is not in the register I'm afraid, there is a gap from 988 to 993 and the words "Catch Up" are written in a margin.

Thank you for your quick response! The digit which is not easy to read is not the last one, but the second last (excuse my English). 94996 or 94986 or 94906.
It is in fact a fillet brazed MTB with a lugged bb and Breezer dropouts. Frame weight is 1947 grams, so I guess „Deda Zero“ sounds possible.
Can you see the year it was made. I guess 1996 or later, because is build for V-brakes only.

Re:

Sorry, I misread your post.

The first two numbers are the year of manufacture on all Dave Lloyd LL numbers, so your MTB was made in 1994.

LL94986 is a Lo-pro, so that's not yours and LL94906 is a road frame so not yours either.

Breezer dropouts are interesting and may have been because he had some to try or at customers request, but it sounds like a nice frame.

Can you post a few pictures? I always love to see another Dave Lloyd frame.
