I got the chance of a shakedown ride today, around 30 miles with 1100ft of climbing.

First, the back end don't flex, so that's that fallacy put to bed.

It accelerates like a lunatic, climbs without the slightest hint of flex, at least it does with my weedy legs powering it and corners like it's on rails.

You can feel the compact geometry as it turns into bends and holds a tight line with ease, fast without being over sensitive or twitchy.

On rough roads, and there are plenty of those around here, the ride can get a little harsh and wearing, but that is the nature of the tubeset and I could take some sting out with a little less air in the tyres.

Anyway, including the belligerent wind, I was two minutes quicker over the same ride than the last time I did it on the Coppell, and with a few more miles back in the legs this will be the perfect bike for my runs over the Mendips, although the roads of Scotland may just be a little too... erm, rustic.
