Cyclo-cross tire history information solicitation

I'm writing an article for a U.S.-based periodical called Cyclocross Magazine discussing the history of cyclo-cross tires.

Any idea on when the first off-road specific tire was manufactured? What about the first mountain bike tire?

I don't know the answers, but I'm very curious to find out.
