Coyote DH

Onto the rear.
21 years ago, younger, more naive and with a combination of more disposable income plus staff discount, my Coyote needed its and my own first set of disc brakes. Being the year 2000 and in the UK, Hope were the obvious choice. I'd already bought Big Un hubs in preparation, using with Combat multi use rims and V-Brakes in the interim - Combat rims seen in the earlier photos.
I duly ordered a set of Hope DH4 brakes, with Pro levers and 183mm rotors front and back. When they arrived neither the front or rear fitted.
After a phone conversation with Hope, we ascertained that my Marzocchi Bomber Z1 alloy had a 'Formula' mount not international standard. All Hope could offer was their two piston C2/O2 brake instead of the DH4 to fit that mount. Instead of swapping brakes, I ordered the Junior T forks to replace the Z1.
At the back, turns out that Coyote (Fastrax) had put the IS brake mount in the wrong place, about 10mm out. Hope were aware of issues and the 183mm rotor went back and a custom 175mm rotor was supplied free of charge in its place.

Having looked through Hope's available mounts, I'd need a 'G' for a 203mm disc on the rear. Ebay provided a black one for little outlay, caustic soda dipped then polished to match the front.
Due to the issues with the IS mount being in the wrong place, this results in a gap between the mount and the caliper. However due to the changes in standards, rather than a custom rotor being needed as with International Standard before, some simple spacers can make up the difference. Initially mocked up with a stack of 1mm washers, I then ordered some aluminium spacers to the correct height.
Bolts on both adapters and calipers then replaced with A2 stainless versions.

A couple more bits tidied up whilst sorting the brakes. Postage took a while but cheap bits from China. Blanking bolts for the swingarm cantilever post holes and a pack of hose clips to replace the multitude of cable ties holding the hoses and front derailleur cable to the frame.

This also arrived for spares, at 17" it's too small for me. However the shock and carbon swingarm may be useful in the future.
Coyote (Fastrax) F2 frame, sold around the same time but for XC usage.

As an interesting aside, on researching Coyote and their parent manufacturer, I stumbled across a brand called Zenith who appear to be South American and certainly available at one point in Argentina.
They also purchased and rebranded Fastrax bikes, the Coyote DH(1) like mine being sold as the Zenith Kobe DH. There are several images online but here are a couple found via Bing search.

The silver and white one is available for sale at https://www.bttbike.com/mtb/702002-zeni ... to-kobe-dh
£181.10 apparently - I'd snap it up if it was closer.
Interestingly it's had a rear shock upgrade to a Manitou Swinger 4 way, would love to know how that has been fitted.
It also looks like it has the corrected rear disk mount as the arms are longer. No need for additional spacers like mine.

Re:

Nice updates.

In regard to the manitou shock. Would it not be possible to create a bespoke rod with a sort of cup end where you would then screw a normal shock through. So eyelets inside that, At a standard shock length?

Lovely.

I had a F2 many years ago now, and like most it died because of the stupid i2i shock dying.

Was a great bike for the time with a 125mm Psylo up front.

Found the business card from Steve Fenton whom I met at Bike '99 (I think) soon after purchasing my frame. There was an issue with the original shock as the spring was deformed and rubbing on the shock body. Replaced soon after under warranty. No charge and they let me keep my original shock too.

Appears that Coyote (Concept) were bought out by Avocet Sports Limited, who are still in the same building 22 years later. The phone number might still work!
